"The British originally introduced the "made in" label in the late 19th century to protect their economy from cheap counterfeit goods produced in Germany. Ironically, with the Germans now sitting at the top of the scale, the U.K. has been pushed down to (a still respectable) fourth in the rankings. Products produced in the United States enjoy a healthy level of respect across the world but "made in USA" is still only tied for eighth place with France and Japan. Out of the countries surveyed, China had the second worst score (28 index points) while Iran came rock-bottom (27 index points)." Source: The World Loves 'Made In Germany'.
